My poor Fan-Tex Ash tree. It is sapping all over, and it can only mean one thing– borers. Ash trees can be susceptible to these insects. By keeping the tree well watered and fed, you should be able to keep bugs at bay.

Even though I have drip irrigation to my pots, I still need to pay attention to soil moisture. I try to make regular checks to see how well the emitter lines are working and if my pots are draining properly, but sometimes a pot or two gets by me.

Typically, I like deadheading my flowers. Watching a plant go from messy and unattractive to tidy and beautiful is one of my favorite things. But like most other outdoor activities this time of year, I don’t want to.

Sometimes my garden overwhelms me. I look at my summer ravaged yard and think it’s going to take a lot of sweat to get this looking good again. So instead of buying a bunch of new flowers at once (and being even more overwhelmed), I’m improving my yard one pot at a time.
