Flamingo Flower
Anthurium andraeanum
The plant that bloomed continuously for 570 days!
By Bill Harlow
In June of 2016, my wife asked me to bring home a blooming indoor plant to give a friend. I took home two Anthurium, a pink and a red. She gave the red one as a gift and we kept the pink one. I had never paid a lot of attention to this plant. I knew the flowers lasted a long time and that the flower was popular in floral arrangements.
I know a lot more now. We placed the plant you see in the photo in a bright south facing window (with no direct sun in the late afternoon). We watered it once a week and added 1/2 tsp of Bonide Liquid Plant Food to the water.
570 days later, it is still blooming! Needless to say I am impressed. The plant remains full and the leaves beautiful and shiny.
I can’t promise everyone that kind of success but it might be worth a try.
