Red Cereus
Cereus peruvianus Red
This Red Cereus is unique. If you Google it you won’t find any information. This could be because it is misnamed or it could be that it is just unknown. We know of only one nursery that grows this specific variety. The Red Cereus shown in the photo is planted behind our landscape office and has been there for about seven years. It proved more hardy than the regular Cereus peruvianus (Red Apple Cactus), surviving the freeze that killed many regular Cereus peruvianus. The photos were taken in the last two weeks. Beautiful red buds adorn the plant for about two weeks before the flowers begin to open in the early morning hours. It has an interesting form even when not in bloom.
