The Globe Mallow can be found flourishing in the wilderness along roadsides, in washes, and on rocky hillsides in the Southwestern United States. Greyish green foliage and stems make this a very attractive low-water perennial. Cup-shaped translucent flowers bloom in an array of colors such as scarlet, white, pink, and yellow, with orange being the most prevalent. Globe Mallow is a dependable spring-bloomer, and will sporadically blossom throughout the growing season. The luminous flowers attract butterflies and native birds. Plant this desert darling in a hot spot with reflected sun among other spring-flowering perennials like penstemon for dramatic shows in color. It also works wonders to soften hard landscapes filled with ocotillo, prickly pear, or agave.
