Elisabeth Geel is a Netherlands-born singer-songwriter/guitarist who lived in Italy for more than thirty years. She arrived in Tucson in 2016 and brought with her the musical souvenirs collected during her years in Italy: three solo albums of original music, numerous live recordings, and her extensive songbook of Neapolitan music.
Neapolitan music is deeply rooted in the Mediterranean tradition; it is rich with elements of Portuguese fado, Andalusian flamenco, and Arabic music. Elisabeth and her band will take you on a journey through its fascinating history, with reinterpretations of some of the classics, songs by lesser known Neapolitan composers, and music by contemporary Neapolitan singer-songwriter Pino Daniele (1955-2015).
